A new food and beverage option has arrived for the spring 2012 semester at the Lancaster Campus of the Harrisburg Area Community College. Christine’s Café, located on Greenfield Road, recently installed a convenient snack bar in the lobby of the East building. The stand offers reasonably priced coffee, bagels, donuts, grain bars, juices, and scones. The snack bar opened on Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2012. The hours are 7:30-11:00 a.m.; however, hours and prices may be adjusted based upon demand in the future.
“People are very excited about just having a different variety than Subway, and to have something in the East building because they’re tired of having to walk from East to Main buildings in between classes,” said the owner of Christine’s café, Christine Helwig.
Bri Benfer, a second year HACC student, purchased a bagel breakfast before class. “[Christine’s Café] was really fast, convenient,” said Benfer.
“It sounds cool,” said Kathryn Dennis, also a second year student, upon hearing about the café opening. Also, Dennis said she would like to see, “food kind of like Panera has.” However, the school did not want sandwich competition between Subway and Christine’s. The original Christine’s Café, located at 555 Greenfield Road, offers an extensive lunch menu, including a full soup and salad bar, Panini, specialty sandwiches, and much more. In addition, they sell coffee, beverages, and fresh Bird-in Hand-Bakery baked goods.
In addition to the snack bar, a second Christine’s will be opening in the Footnotes Café, located in the main building. It will offer a variety of meal items different from Subway’s food options. The tentative menu includes a salad bar, soups, soft pretzels, nachos and cheese, burgers, and fries. “Some healthy food options like seafood and gluten-free foods,” Helwig said, will be available. The prices will range from 99 cents to $7.00 maximum. Helwig hopes to open the main building location sometime between the middle and end of February.
